Who this is for
Ndi Umunyamulenge is for anyone who wants an accurate account of our story: young people growing up far from Mulenge, elders who carry oral history, researchers, and friends of the community.
The Banyamulenge are **Congolese citizens** of the **Democratic Republic of the Congo**. Their homeland lies in the highlands of **South Kivu**. This site records that history with care — as a living archive, not a finished encyclopedia.
How sources are chosen
Tribe pages draw on family memoirs, elder testimony, and published ethno-historical works when available. Where earlier lineages reach into the Great Lakes past, we mean pre-colonial kingdoms and regions — the **ancient Rwanda Kingdom**, the **ancient Burundi Kingdom**, and highland zones of what is now **Tanzania** — not the modern nation-states that later took those names. Political borders of the twentieth century do not erase Congolese belonging in South Kivu.
When a page cites a specific memoir or study, those credits appear on the page and in References. We prefer named sources over anonymous claims.
An honest pilot
Ancestry documentation proceeds tribe by tribe. The Abanyabyinshi lineage is fully published today; other imirara are listed and will be filled as elders and families share records.
